As many of you know, Dawna was diagnosed with MS last year. Though her disease is not as bad as many people, hers has been getting progressively worse. Severe pain, numbness, fatigue and brain fog have been unrelenting. The quality of her life and level of energy for pa...renting have been greatly affected. Recent and experimental surgery in Europe has proven to significantly help individuals with MS. In short, the procedure (angioplasty) has been performed to fix a condition called CCSVI- a narrowing of the jugular veins.
In North America, the procedure is performed thousand of times a day on heart patients. However, in Canada, the procedure is not accepted as a recognized treatment for MS- meaning they will not perform the surgery. Recently, a scan of her jugular vein found that Dawna has a blockage. Surgery may significantly help her condition. The only catch is that the surgery is in Poland. It turns out that one of the pioneers in this field performs surgery on this condition in his hospital in Poland. Dawna recently emailed him and he agreed to consider her for treatment. Dawna is tentatively booked for surgery in May.
What we are hoping for is that you would consider helping. First, we would like you to pray -- for a safe trip, for surgery to be successful and for Dawna's symptoms to go away. Second, if you would like to financially help, please give what you can. The surgery and travel are not covered by the Canadian medical system. Meaning, we are paying for everything. Anything that you can give will greatly help! It's our hope and prayer that this treatment will work and enable Dawna to get back to the level of health and energy required to effectively take care of her kids and family.
